What is Mosman Cup?
The Mosman Cup is a football tournament
for children aged 6-16 years which is to be held annually
every October, a time when both local and international schools
are open for classes. The match is sanctioned by the Philippine
Football Federation (PFF), and its primary sponsor will be
a publication by Mosman Communications, Growing Kids,
a parental guidebook for children in the same age bracket
as the participants of the Cup.

Even Playing Field
A child's growing body requires physical
activity for all-around health and wellness—a sound mind springs
from a healthy body. Games and athletic activity also shape
character, discipline, and a persistent spirit.
Tough competition brings out toughness. Excellent competition
ought to educe excellence. Team sports build teamwork.
These things we have in mind in gathering
young people for Mosman Cup 2007—not just to play football
but to test their mettle and character in the spirit of friendly
sportive activity.
The same values we want to impart to children
through Mosman Cup 2007 have guided Mosman Communications
Inc. in doing its business. In a sense, we are like a football
team that plays with panache, ardor, relentless effort, and
a keen eye for the goal—with a lot of room for laughter and
joy on the job.
To a lot of people the world over, football
weaves magic, and we believe that we, Filipinos, can also
weave the magic in football. The sport fits us, and we have
a vast reservoir of young talents to develop—from the exclusive
schools and football clubs of Makati to the slums of Tondo.
That is why in this tournament, you will
witness players from a small school in Smokey Mountain take
on their counterparts from the more affluent exclusive schools
on an even playing field.
The participation of the Philippine Christian
Foundation (PCF) in Mosman Cup 2007 is also meant to put forward
the work that PCF and Ms. Jane Walker are doing to make the
lives of children in a depressed area in Tondo a little less
harsh, a little more bearable. Their work has been astonishing.
Weeks before the tournament a group of young
footballers from Nomads visited the place to shake hands with
their less-than-fortunate competitors and donate their old
football boots. What they saw touched their hearts—for amidst
the distressing conditions they live in, the children wore
smiles on their faces and showed the heart to play football
and win.
We can help them win—not just one football
game, but a future a little brighter than they now see.
PCF will have two tents during the tournament where you may
drop donations in cash or in kind for the care and education
of the children under PCF's wings. Of the 3,000 copies of
this souvenir program, 2,500 had been donated to the PCF for
them to sell at PhP100 each. PCF will keep half of the proceeds
for the improvement of their school in Tondo, the other half
will go to the Nomad Junior Academy.
If s just a little way of making football
more than just a game to play, a sport to win.
Welcome to Mosman Cup 2007!
Let the games begin!
Jena Fetalino
Philippine Sports Commission
Greetings from the Philippine Sports Commission!
On Behalf of the Board of Commissioners
of the Philippine Sports Commission, I wish you success in
this endeavor "Mosman Cup" that features a football
tournament involving children from 6-12 years of age.
The Philippines is full of talented young
athletes whose capabilities have yet to be discovered and
harnessed. Your tournament will help these children realize
their gifts and begin their awareness of the sports.
May your tournament bring out the best
in these children as we look forward to their ascendance as
future national players that will bring pride, honor, and
glory to our beloved country.
MABUHAY KAYO!
WILLIAM I. RAMIREZ
Chairman
Philippine Football Federation
The Philippine Football Federation is proud
to have sanctioned the organization of the Mosman Friendship
Cup, a Football Festival that is compatible and in fact enhances
the Grassroots Program of the Philippine Football Federation.
The Mosman Cup, a tournament for U-12 Boys
and Girls, is organized by none other than the President of
Mosman Communication, Inc., Ms. Jena Fetalino. We thank her
and Mosman for her support to our game.
To all the participants, we wish you all
the best of luck and a wonderful time at the Nomads.
JUAN MIGUEL G. ROMUALDEZ
President
Philippines Sportswriters Association
From the sportswriting front, we are aware
something is kicking out of a new womb to signal the awaited
resurgence of Philippine football.
One of the country's top sports during
the pre-war era, football is now being strongly felt again
in Metro Manila after decades of dormancy, and with only a
sputtering of tournaments confined only in the provinces.
Foreign football players deserve a pat
in the back for trying harder to keep the sport alive in Philippines,
perhaps the only country in the Southeast Asian region, where
football is not the number one sport.
The Mosman Cup is one tournament that inspires
us to help in the promotion of the sport for our future generations
to play and nurture.
Congratulations and thank you for staying
true to the spirit of oneness in sports.
ALDRIN CARDONA
President
Nomad Sports Club
The Nomad Sports Club is pleased to be
the venue for the staging of Mosman Cup 2007, and we are proud
to be a partner of Mosman Communications Inc. in an undertaking
worthy of praise and support.
Like Mosman Communications, we believe
in promoting physical activity among children through sports
like football. Because more than just instilling competitiveness
and a sense of achievement, sports also promotes good health.
Last year, we launched the Nomad Junior
Football Academy, guided by a burning desire to bring the
game to as large a number of children as we could. With the
help of volunteer coaches from our Football Section, the Junior
Academy trains children inside our grounds. The goal, of course,
is not just to help develop a breed of players that someday
may do the Philippines proud and give her honor, but also
to hone social skills and behavior among the children taking
part.
And that is why our partnership with Mosman
Communications for the first-ever Mosman Cup—and we hope there
would be more to come—is another good step toward these ends.
We welcome you—participants, officials,
sponsors, guests—to the club and to the Mosman Cup.
Enjoy the games and the activities that
Mosman and the club have prepared for all of you.
We hope to see you in future activities
of the Nomad Sports Club.
Max Durrant
President
Philippine Christian Foundation
We envision Filipino children and their
families unshackling themselves from the bonds of poverty.
In pursuit of these goals to ennoble and enable the poor,
the Philippine Christian Foundation (PCF) carries out year-round
programs in education and adult literacy, health and nutrition,
community and family support, livelihood and micro finance,
and spiritual care.
We work with the poorest of the poor living
and working in dump sites and squatter colonies in cemeteries
in Manila, Bacolod and Baguio City.
PCF is currently educating over 857 children
of all ages-their needs often outstrip our resources, we are
a non-stock non-profit NGO of modest means.
When we were asked if we could select children
to make a football team who could compete in the under 12's
for Mosman Cup, the children were so excited their school
was chosen to take part in such a prestigious event. They
deserve to compete.
For kindling enthusiasm and a sportive
spirit in children, we give special thanks to the support
of The Philippine Football Federation and Mr. Ed Formoso for
training our children, the Nomads Sports club for the free
use of the field, and for Mosman Communications Inc. for
putting our charity forward.
Mabuhay kayo sa pagtataguyod sa kapakanan
ng kabataang Pilipino!
