Kiddies football gets boost in Mosman Cup

TO HELP promote football in the country, Mosman Communications Inc, will hold the first Mosman Cup, a tournament for kids aged six to 12 on Oct. 6 at the Nomad Sports Club in Parañaque.
Sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation, the one-day tournament will be participated in by children’s football clubs and school football teams throughout the country.
Launching the tournament yesterday during the PSA Forum at Shakey’s UN Ave., Mosman communications took note of the strong interest in football in the Philippines which used to rank among the strongest teams in Asia.
Jena Fetalino, Mosman president, said the tournament hopes not only to strengthen the emerging interest in the sport among young Filipinos but also to encourage children to play football not only for its physical fitness benefits but also to help develop social behavior.
"In many countries, especially in Europe, football is being used to combat antisocial behavior and promote self-esteem," Fetalino said.
"It teaches children the importance of teamwork as well as the value of commitment and discipline. It enables children to experience the joys of victory and the sadness of loss and teaches them how to handle both emotions."
The tournament is sponsored in part by GSK, Metro Pharma Philippines Inc., Omron, Mizuno, Wyeth, Genesia and AstraZeneca Philippines. It has as media partners the Philippine Sportswriters Association, Manila Standard Today, Graphic Magazine and Executive Musings at FM 104.3.

Kiddie football takes spotlight in Mosman Cup
The first Mosman Cup, a football tournament for children six-12 years old, will be staged on Oct. 6 at Nomad Sports Club inside Merville Park Subdivision in Parañaque.
The one-day tournament, sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation, will be participated in by different clubs throughout the country, and is aimed at promoting the spot.
Mosman communications Inc. president Jena Fetalino yesterday bared the tournament details during weekly the Pa Forum at Shakey’s United Nations Ave.
Fetalino said the tournament hopes nit only to strengthen the emerging interest in the sport among young Filipino, but also to encourage children to play football not only for its physical-fitness benefits, but also for developing social behavior.

Mosman launched the tournament in line with its business of promoting good health among Filipinos, especially children. Last year, it launched GROWING KIDS, a set of four booklets that serves as a guide for parents in raising healthy children once they reach six years old. GROWING KIDS serves as companion to BABY MINDER, also a four-booklet et that helps parents raise kids from birth to ix years old.

“While the kids will be out in the field playing, their moms and dads will also have something to do. It will be a fun day for everyone,” said Mosman Communication president Jena Fetalino in yesterday’s Philippine Sports-writers Association forum at the Shakey’s United Nation Avenue.
Mosman is a group that publishes magazines and print materials on wellness and health, among them Growing Kids and Waiting Room.
Fetalino said that 58 teams from 17 participating school and clubs have signed up for the one-day soccer festival featuring competitions in the boys’ and girls’ 12- under, 10 under and eight-and-under division.
Among those that will field squads in the matches are the Alabang United Football Club, Ateneo, Brent School Manila, Colegio San Agustin, Don Bosco Mandaluyong, Don Bosco Tarlac, lnternational School Manila, Nomads Football Club, PCF Tondo and Victory Christian School.
She added the event is also meant t drum up support for the Philippime Christian Foundation, a private group that helps needy families in Tondo, whose president, Jane Walker, was also at the session sponsored by PAGCOR.
“The foundation will set up a tent during the tournament where families can donate in cash and kind, all of which will go its beneficiaries−the scavenger kids in Smokey Mountain and other families.” Fetalino said.
Sandra Camesa, Mosman Cup project head, said that aside from football, there will also be games and story telling for children “a real life fairy.”
On the other hand, she said there will also be skin analysis, beauty tips and massage for the mothers who will be tagging along.
Ding Generoso, Mosman group editor in chief, disclosed that there will be a photo contest for sports photographers covering the event, with a top prize of P10,000 going to the champion.

When you see the kids from Philippine Christian Foundation (PCF) Tondo play in the first ever Mosman Cup on October 6, you’ll find out that just about any kid who has the passion for the sport can play it.
The players who make up this promising team come in a small school near the Smokey Mountain area.
The PCF Tondo team will go up against equally promising players coming from various exclusive schools and football clubs in the Metro Manila area and Luzon. Participating team include the Alabang United Football Club, Ateneo de Manila, Caritas Don Bosco School (Laguna), Don Bosco Mandaluyong, Don Bosco Tarlac, Futbol Funatic, Gawad Kalinga, Holistic Eductional Centre, International School Manila, Muntinlupa Football Club, Nomads Junior Football Club, PAREF Southridge School, Philippine Army Football Club, Saint Pedro Poveda College, Union Football Club, Victory Christian School, and Xavier School.
The 2007 Mosman Cup is a national six-a-side football tournament for boys and girls six to 12 years organized by Mosman Communications.

A total of 57 teams from various schools and football clubs, including four teams from a small school near Smokey Mountain in Tondo, will compete in the one-day knockout tournament organized by Mosman Communications and sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation.
The Tondo team, which will play under the banner of the Philippine Christian Foundation, will go up against equally promising players coming from various exclusive schools and football clubs in Metro Manila and Luzon.
Participating clubs and schools include the Alabang United Football Club, Ateneo de Manila, Caritas Don Bosco School (Laguna), Don Bosco Mandaluyong, Don Bosco Tarlac, Futbol Funatics, Gawad Kalinga, Holistic Education Center, International School Manila, Man Chelsea Red, Muntinlupa Football Club, Nomads Junior Football Club, PAREF Southridge School, Philippine Army Football Club, Saint Pedro Poveda College, Union Football Club, Victory Christian School, and Xavier School.
The PCF is a non-stock, not-for-profit, non-government organization that runs education, nutrition, health, and livelihood programs for families in the Smokey Mountain area.
Apart from participating in the games, PCF is also a beneficiary of the event. Half of the proceeds from the sale of the event’s souvenir program will go to PCF. The PCF will have two tents during the tournament where spectators may drop donations in cash or in kind for the care and education of the children under its wings.
